Every year, thousands of people in the Netherlands fall into a coma due to brain injury. For example, due to a traffic accident or a brain hemorrhage. Most people regain consciousness within a few days to weeks. But this does not apply to everyone. When the eyes open after a coma, but not without a clear sign of consciousness, we speak of a Prolonged Disorder of Consciousness (PDOC)
