On Wednesday 12 March, the in-depth afternoon for EENnacoma took place in the historical monument Soeterbeeck. The theme of the afternoon was introduced by chairman Willemijn van Erp (post-doctoral researcher and specialist in geriatric medicine). First, Amanda van Doremalen (PA at Libra) talked about the definition of Confusional State and gave insight into its diagnosis and treatment. Afterwards, Arjen Slooter (resident psychiatry at UMC Utrecht) gave a presentation on the difference between delirium and confusional state. Due to different perspectives on this and the use of different definitions, some people in the room themselves fell into a confusional state. Afterwards, experience expert Hella Jet Hogenboezem recited a poignant poem about her experiences after she came out of a coma. Willemijn continued to talk to her about these experiences and at the end of the conversation, Hella came up with an important piece of advice for the healthcare professionals; "Listen to the patient, even if someone looks confused, and keep thinking about what is important to the patient."

After a short break, Erik Grauwmeijer, MD, PhD (rehabilitation physician at Erasmus MC) took the audience through the relationship between ABI and delirium, especially in the subacute phase. Finally, the room divided into groups to answer questions about confusional state such as what the correct diagnosis is, whether there are treatment protocols and what research is needed. This resulted in interesting discussions and new starting points for further action in the future.
