On Friday, December 12, 2025, the EENnacoma in-depth afternoon took place in Careyn De Plantage, a beautiful care center with a warm atmosphere near the historic city center in Brielle.

The afternoon started with an inspiring presentation by Leoniek van der Maarel ((grief) psychologist) full of useful models and recognizable examples from practice. The recognition of the grief of loved ones and that it lasts as long as it lasts was an important insight.

Next, Niek Kok (ethicist and post-doctoral researcher) took us through his valuable research on talking to relatives about treatment wishes of people with LBS. He spoke about the inquisitive attitude that is needed to achieve a good will reconstruction, the different sources of will and the bias that can play a role in the process of will reconstruction.

The conclusion of the afternoon was a workshop provided by Annemarie van Assendelft and Birgit Voorn (both coordinators) of the Centre for Consultation and Expertise (CCE). They talked about the support that the CCE can offer in complex care situations and (problem) behaviour. In addition, the participants were given the opportunity to discuss their own experiences in groups with situations in which the cooperation between the relative(s) and the care provider was under pressure.

Some points that were fed back in plenary were the importance of paying attention to someone's life story and existing relationships and the balance between understanding and setting boundaries.
